United Studies Student Exchange, in conjunction with its foreign partners, offers the opportunity of living and working in the United States to qualified college/university students. Most students are pre-assigned to an employer and can work up to 4 months for that employer earning spending money for living expenses and travel in the U.S.
Why participate in the Work/Travel Program?

Who can participate?
- Participants must be at least 18 years of age and not older than 29 years by May 15 of the program year.
- Participants must be a bona fide post-secondary school student actively pursuing a degree or a full-course of study at an accredited institution. The participant must also be registered for a full-time course load for the semester following their participation in the program.
- Participants must be self-starters, flexible and willing to make new friends.
- Participants must be in good health.
- Participants must be able to communicate effectively in English.
Where can I go and for how long?
United Studies offers positions in many areas across the United States. Participants are asked to work for their employer for up to 4 months. Upon completion of the contracted employment, students may travel anywhere within the U.S. for up to 30 days.
Where will I live and how will I get to and from my job while in this program?
United Studies will assist participants with housing and transportation information, however, the responsibility of securing housing and transportation is the participants. Participants will receive a list of available housing during orientation.
What types of jobs are offered?
A variety of jobs are available for qualified students. They include such things as:
- Administration
- Communications
- Concert stagehands
- Food service
- Game/arcade operator
- Gift shop sales
- Guest services
- Horticulture
- Maintenance
- Ride operators
- Security
- Warehouse
- Water safety
What support will I have while I am in the United States?
United Studies Student Exchange maintains a full-time staff in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. The staff will provide an orientation upon your arrival in the United States and will be available to assist you in the event of an emergency during the program.
How much does it cost?
Fees charged by United Studies (after acceptance):

In-country costs for program participants:
- Airfare to and from the United States,
- Housing and transportation while in the program,
- Visa and passport fees,
- Living expenses while in the program,
- Travel within the U.S. while in the program.
When do I need to apply?
We encourage all interested students to submit their completed applications as early as possible to ensure that we have sufficient time to match you with an appropriate employer. The deadline to submit an application is May 1, 2009, for the Summer 2009 program. Once received, applications are evaluated based on available space and the merits of each applicant.
What is the application process?
All participants must complete an application and undergo an interview and language screening in their home country. Applicants must also submit a letter from the college/university participant is currently enrolled stating their current enrollment and proof of enrollment for the term immediately following their participation in the program.
Once the application, interview and screening are complete, participants will be chosen and matched with a job (applicants are asked their job preferences during the interview and screening).
Once accepted and matched with a job, applicants will be notified of acceptance.
What happens after acceptance?
If your application to participate in the program is accepted, United Studies will assist you in obtaining your visa. However, you will be required to attend the U.S. Embassy in person in order to obtain your

United Studies will work with you on flight arrangements and final details for your program participation through a pre-departure orientation provided in your home country.
